Juggling Act | Work | Business | Personal
Posted on June 15th, 2017
We all live busy lives and each and every person has to deal and manage different conflicting priorities.
I respect just how hard it is to be a mother and a wife/single parent who still works and has a personal life.
I respect just how hard it is for a career dominated person who strives on climbing up the career ladder while also trying to have a life outside of that.
How do I go about balancing my life with working full time, focusing on the business and having a personal life? It is tough, it is challenging and sometimes it just plain out sucks! But for some reason we all just keep on going – but for what? For me I gain satisfaction out of doing a great job at work and striving to improve. I gain enjoyment out of my passion for nutrition and being able to change someone’s life for the better and I love seeing my boyfriend/friends/family, simply for the fact they make me feel like a human J
My Working Week
I work 8-5pm Monday – Friday and often spend about an hour 3-4 nights a week working on my small business, just focusing on tasks that don’t require a significant amount of focus/attention to detail as I am often exhausted. I leave the more complicated tasks (if I can) until the weekend where I am fresh and able to dedicate a good amount of time to them. I try not to make any big decisions in the evenings either, rather leave them until the morning or weekends. I attend exercise classes 2-3 times a week either before or after work as it’s great for my sanity as well as strengthening my knee due to an injury. I try and see friends during lunch breaks when I can and on weekends, working around my business commitments and other commitments.
I may not have kids but it doesn’t mean that my life is any less busy then someone else’s, it’s just simply different. It is how we go about prioritising and planning our different commitments.
Stress & Pressure
Stress unfortunately is just part of the parcel and learning effective ways to manage it is important. Things I do to manage my stress include:
- Headspace App – I love the Headspace App for 10 minute meditations which I find great to help me stay calm and collected most of the time during higher stress periods.
- Eat Well – I am also pretty strict on eating well during the week to help cope with the pressure I am under as I need to ensure that I can remain focused, alert, energetic and essentially ‘switched on’ to get me through the week. Eating well is also essential for quality sleep and I know that if I have 1 bad night of sleep I definitely do not function as well!
- Sleep – I go to sleep quite early anywhere between 9-9:30pm to ensure that I get a good 7-8 hours every night.
- Coffee – I also ensure that I do not have more than 1 coffee a day as I know any more coffee makes me feel more stressed and anxious even if I’m not.
- Exercise – I do at least 2-3 HIIT classes a week, followed by 1-2 long walks (5-7km). I also try to fit in 1-2 sessions of yoga/Pilates where I can as well (this doesn’t have every week), however making sure I only stick to about 30mins. I am generally pretty active on weekends and doing activities outdoors which also helps.
Life really is all about balance and some weeks are better than others, however finding some sort of routine that works for you and your family is important and needs to be something that you invest time into.
