Healthy Quick Snacks
Posted on April 11th, 2017
Often when it comes to healthy snacks people find it difficult and opt for something unhealthy due to the convenience factor. Don’t get me wrong there are definitely times where I have done this too, however these days I am much better at choosing healthier options.
What should a snack contain?
Ideally we want to eat a snack that contains protein, healthy fats and some healthy carbohydrates to keep our blood sugar levels stable.
So what snacks should I opt for?
I have put together some quick and simple snack ideas that do not take too long to prepare and can be done in advance J Give these a crack when your craving a snack!
- Protein powder mixed into Greek/natural yoghurt
- Greek/natural yoghurt with a small handful of nuts or granola (preferably homemade granola)
- 1 piece of fruit with 1 tbsp nut butter/ or small handful of nuts
- 2-3 medjool dates stuffed with nut butter
- Carrot, celery, capsicum or green beans with hummus or cottage cheese
- Curried egg (hard-boiled egg, tahini and curry powder – mashed)
- Hard-boiled egg with ¼ avocado
- Chia seed pudding (mix 1 tbsp chia seeds, 1 tbsp protein powder and ½ cup of water together and leave for 15 minutes or longer to thicken)
- Espresso Shake (shot of fresh espresso, scoop of protein powder, 1 tbsp nut butter + water/milk – shake or blend)
- 2 x buckwheat/rye crisp breads + nut butter or cottage cheese
- 2 pieces of deli ham with 4-5 olives
- Tin of tuna in olive oil.
What if I don’t have anything on me?
So you have forgot to pack some snacks and need something quick smart. Choose options like:
- Sushi roll or rice paper roll (avoid battered or crumbed fillings)
- Roast meat (often find this in a food court)
- Deli meat (from Coles or Woolies)
- Smoothie (just make sure you opt to have no ice-cream or frozen yoghurt and look for ones that contain real fruit)
- Raw bar (from Coles or Woolies in health food section – these still contain sugar so be mindful)
- Bagel with cream cheese and/or salmon (often Cafés have these)
- Fruit (most Cafe’s and food stores have fresh fruit available these days)
- Unsalted raw nuts (Coles or Woolies)
Hopefully this provides you with some go to options when you are time poor 🙂
